Jaw Slimming in Leeds: A Softer Jaw and a Quieter Bite
By Sasha, Founder & Head Practitioner, Ministry of Faces, Leeds · September 2026 · 7 min read
You catch yourself doing it at the traffic lights. Teeth clamped, jaw set, shoulders somewhere up near your ears. By the time you notice, the ache has already started.
Then there is the face in other people’s photographs. Wider at the bottom than you remember. A lower face that reads heavy and square, even in the weeks you have slept properly.
Those two complaints are usually the same muscle. It is called the masseter, it sits at the back angle of your jaw, and pound for pound it is the strongest muscle in the human body. Clench it every night for ten years and it grows. Exactly the way a bicep would.
Jaw slimming quiets it down. It is one of the most satisfying treatments we do at our clinic in Rawdon, because it does two jobs in one appointment: it softens the width of the lower face, and it takes the force out of the grinding.
A slimmer lower face is the kind of change nobody can name. People ask whether you have lost weight, or changed your hair. That is exactly the standard I want.
THE TREATMENT
How jaw slimming actually works

A small amount of injectable muscle relaxant is placed into the body of the masseter on each side. Nothing is added to your face. Nothing is filled. The muscle simply stops working at full power, and because a muscle that is no longer being over-used gradually loses bulk, the angle of the jaw narrows over the weeks that follow. The heavy corner softens. The whole face starts to read more oval than square. It is the same family of treatment as anti-wrinkle injections, used somewhere most people never think to use it.
The appointment takes around ten minutes. The needle is very fine, most people describe a firm press rather than a sting, and you walk straight back out to the car. No swelling to hide, and nothing that stops you working that afternoon.
Accuracy is the entire treatment here. Placed carelessly it can tug on a smile. Placed properly it quietens the jaw and cleans up the line. Being recognised as Best Aesthetic Practitioner UK was never about anything exotic. It is small amounts, put exactly where they belong, by someone who treats this muscle every week.
WHAT IT TREATS
What jaw slimming is brilliant for
Two very different people book this treatment. One comes for the ache, one for the shape. Both leave with the other thrown in.
A wide or square lower face. The most common reason people book. Softening the corner of the jaw tapers the lower third, which tends to flatter the cheekbones too, especially alongside cheek filler.
Night-time grinding and morning jaw ache. If you wake with a tight jaw, or your dentist has started mentioning tooth wear, this is the treatment that takes the force out of it.
Tension headaches around the temples. Often the same over-worked muscle group, and often a very welcome bonus.
A lower face that squared off in your late thirties while the mid-face quietly flattened. Slim the bottom, restore the top with cheek filler or a course of polynucleotides.
Jaws that have been over-built elsewhere. If you have had jawline filler somewhere and it left you wider rather than sharper, relaxing the muscle is usually the correction. More product is not.
Men who want a cleaner jaw without bulk. A lot of our male jaw patients want definition, not width, and this is how you get it.
Early jowling that makes the jaw look heavy. Sometimes the honest answer is jowl and marionette support instead, and we will tell you so.
Grinding and jaw ache are usually the reason people book. The slimmer face is the part they talk about afterwards.
RESULTS
What happens, and when

This is not an instant treatment, and I would be wary of anyone who promised it was. The shape change is a muscle shrinking, and muscles take weeks. The relief arrives much sooner.
When | What you will notice |
|---|---|
The appointment | Ten minutes, a couple of tiny injections on each side, then straight back out into Rawdon. |
First 7 days | Very little to look at. The muscle starts to let go, and some people wake without the usual jaw tension. |
2 to 4 weeks | Chewing feels lighter. Morning ache eases. The first hint of a softer corner at the jaw. |
6 to 8 weeks | The slimming shows properly. This is the point where photographs start to look different. |
3 to 4 months | Time for a top up. The muscle slowly wakes back up, so we book you in before it fully returns. |
After 2 to 3 sessions | The muscle stays smaller for longer and most people stretch their appointments further apart. |
Most people settle into three appointments a year at first.
Filler builds the jaw outwards. Jaw slimming brings it in. Knowing which one you actually need is most of the job.
YOUR TREATMENT PLAN
What it works beautifully with
Slimming the jaw changes the frame, so it shows at its best when the rest of the face is looking well. That is why we rarely do it in isolation.
The usual pairing is cheek filler or chin filler, because a narrower jaw wants structure higher up and a chin that finishes the profile. If skin quality is the problem rather than the shape, a course of Profhilo or another skin booster restores the glow. For the upper face, light anti-wrinkle work keeps the brow soft without freezing anything.
People who clench under pressure often sweat under pressure too, and anti-sweat treatment is quietly one of the best things on our menu. If you are combining areas, our filler packages are better value than booking piecemeal, and a luxury facial afterwards finishes it beautifully.
COMPARISON
Jaw slimming, jawline filler or chin filler
These three get muddled constantly, usually by people who were sold the wrong one. Here is the honest version.
Treatment | What it changes | Best for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
Jaw slimming | Relaxes and narrows the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw | A wide, square or heavy lower face, plus clenching and grinding | 3 to 4 months at first, longer with repeat sessions |
Jawline filler | Adds structure along the jaw and lifts the back corner | A soft or undefined jaw, early jowling, a jaw that has lost its edge | 12 to 18 months |
Chin filler | Projects and balances the chin | A short or recessed chin, a profile that reads out of balance | 12 to 18 months |

And you do not need a train to Harley Street for any of it. The standard across Leeds and Yorkshire is every bit as high, and you will get an appointment this month rather than next spring.
IS IT FOR YOU
Who jaw slimming suits, and who it does not

It suits you if the widest part of your face is the bottom. If you can feel a hard lump at the angle of your jaw when you bite down. If you wake with tension, or your face has grown squarer while your weight has not moved an ounce.
It does not suit you if your face is already narrow or long, if there is little fat left in your cheeks, or if the real problem is skin laxity rather than muscle. Slimming a jaw that was never heavy is a quick way to look tired, and I will not do it.
If your face is already narrow, I will tell you this is not your treatment. That is the whole point of a proper consultation.

QUESTIONS
Jaw slimming questions we get asked every week
Does jaw slimming hurt?
Not really. The needle is very fine and it goes into a large muscle, so most people describe a firm press for a second or two on each side. No numbing cream is needed, there is no downtime, and you can drive yourself home. If needles worry you, say so at your free consultation and we will walk you through it first. Book a consultation.
Will I still be able to chew normally?
Yes. We reduce the force of the muscle, we do not switch it off. Steak and crusty bread can feel like more effort for the first fortnight, then normal service resumes. That same change is why the night-time grinding eases. Have a look at the full jaw slimming treatment page.
How long does jaw slimming last?
Expect 3 to 4 months from your first session. Because the muscle loses a little bulk each time it is quietened, most people find the second and third rounds hold longer. The principle is the same as anti-wrinkle injections elsewhere on the face, which we explain fully in our guide to anti-wrinkle injections in Leeds.
Will it make my face look gaunt?
Not at a sensible dose. We slim the lower third and leave everything else alone. If the mid-face is already flat, we pair it with cheek filler or a skin booster course so the result reads rested rather than empty. That balance is what you are paying a nurse-led clinic for. Bring your photographs along.
Can I have jaw slimming and jawline filler at the same time?
Often, yes, and the combination is superb on the right face. We usually slim first, review at six weeks, then place jawline filler once we can see the true shape underneath. For more than one area, ask about our filler packages when you book.
