Anti-Ageing Treatments in Leeds: What Works in Your 40s and 50s
By Sasha, Founder & Head Practitioner, Ministry of Faces, Leeds | September 2026 | 7 min read
There is a particular morning that turns up somewhere around forty two. You slept fine. You had nothing to drink. And the face in the mirror still reads as tired, a little flatter, with a shadow under the eyes that was not there five years ago.
Most women reach for a new serum at this point. Then a better serum. Then a frighteningly expensive one. Skincare is absolutely worth doing, and it will not put back what has actually left.
Here is the part nobody tells you, and I say it after thousands of these consultations at our Leeds skin clinic: this decade responds beautifully. Faces in their forties and fifties are some of my favourite work, because the change is quick, obvious to you, and invisible as a treatment to everyone else.
The women who age best are not the ones having the most done. They are the ones who started sensibly and then stayed consistent.
THE SHIFT
What changes in your 40s, and why your old routine stopped working

Oestrogen quietly holds a great deal of your skin together, and as it falls the scaffolding goes with it. Published figures put collagen loss at up to 30 per cent in the first five years after menopause, then roughly 2 per cent a year after that. Perimenopause itself runs anywhere from 2 to 8 years and usually begins in the early to mid forties.
You feel it before you can name it. Skin that was oily turns dry and slightly reactive. Foundation sits in places it never used to. The jawline softens, the under-eye area hollows a fraction, and the lines from nose to mouth start holding a shadow all day instead of only when you laugh.
It is structure and skin quality, two separate things, and both can be rebuilt. The trick is knowing which one is causing what you see.
WHAT IT TREATS
What these treatments are brilliant for
This is where the money goes furthest in your forties and fifties.
Flat, dull, crepey skin. The most underrated fix of the lot. A course of Profhilo or Seventy Hyal rehydrates from within and the glow is back inside a fortnight.
Fine lines that have started to etch in. Softly dosed anti-wrinkle injections smooth the movement without touching your expression. If you have never had them, we start with a lighter dose.
Tired, hollow under-eyes. Tear trough filler when there is a genuine hollow, or Lumi Eyes when the skin there is thin and crepey rather than empty.
Cheeks that have lost their support. A small amount of cheek filler lifts everything below it. Small. I cannot stress that word enough.
Lines from nose to mouth, and downturned corners. Nasolabial fold filler and marionette line treatment soften the shadows that make a resting face look cross when it is nothing of the sort.
A jawline that has lost its edge. Jawline filler redraws the border between face and neck, which is usually what people are reacting to when they say they look older in photographs.
Skin that needs regenerating, not filling. Polynucleotides are the most genuinely interesting thing to arrive in years, and our Illuma Luna protocol is what I recommend most for thin, tired skin.
Hair that is thinning at the parting. Far more common in this decade than anyone admits at parties. Hair restoration and PRP are worth an honest conversation.
YOUR TREATMENT PLAN
The order I treat things in
Sequence matters more than shopping list. Treat the skin first and you often need less of everything else, which is the opposite of how most places sell to women in this age group.
Stage | What we do | When you see it | How long it holds |
|---|---|---|---|
Consultation | Face assessed properly, plan agreed, nothing rushed and nothing sold on the day | Same visit | Reviewed every time |
Skin quality first | Profhilo across 2 sessions 4 weeks apart, or polynucleotides across 3 sessions 2 to 4 weeks apart | 7 to 10 days after the first session | 6 to 12 months |
Expression lines | Anti-wrinkle injections, dosed lightly and reviewed at 2 weeks | 3 to 5 days, full effect by day 14 | 3 to 4 months |
Structure, only if needed | Cheek, chin or jawline support in small, staged amounts | Immediate, settled by 2 weeks | 9 to 18 months |
Maintenance | A facial between visits and a light top-up when it is due | Ongoing | Reviewed twice a year |
Results build. Almost nobody walks out of a first appointment finished, and anyone promising that is selling you something you will regret by Christmas.
COMPARISON
Skin boosters, injectables or filler: the three routes we use in Leeds

People arrive asking for filler when they need a skin booster, and asking for a facial when they need collagen stimulation. This is the shortest version of the difference.
Skin boosters | Anti-wrinkle injections | Dermal filler | |
|---|---|---|---|
Best for | Dull, dry, crepey skin and loss of glow | Expression lines across the top third of the face | Volume and structure that has genuinely gone |
How it works | Hydrates deep in the skin and stimulates your own collagen | Relaxes the muscle that is folding the skin | Replaces support where the face has flattened |
First results | 7 to 10 days | 3 to 5 days | Immediate, settled by 2 weeks |
Typically lasts | 6 to 12 months | 3 to 4 months | 9 to 18 months |

WHAT PAIRS WELL
The combinations that make the real difference
My favourite pairing for a woman in her late forties: a course of polynucleotides or Jalupro to rebuild the skin, light anti-wrinkle injections once that has settled, and a HydraFacial every couple of months to keep the surface behaving. If there is an event in the diary, one of our luxury facials the week before does more for a photograph than any amount of primer.
If you are running on empty as well as looking it, vitamin B12 injections are a small, sensible addition our regulars swear by. If you would rather do this as a planned course, our dermal filler packages work out better than booking one thing at a time.
For the longer read on choosing between the boosters, we compared them properly here: Profhilo vs Seventy Hyal vs Jalupro. And if the under-eyes are your main complaint, start with our guide to tear trough filler.
Skin quality is the thing people actually notice. Nobody looks at you and thinks 1ml. They think you look well.
IS IT FOR YOU
Who this suits, and who it does not

This suits you if you want to look rested rather than different. If the goal is to be told you look well and not to be asked what you have had done, we will get on famously.
It suits men too, and more of them every year. A softer jawline is often the first thing they notice, and male jaw enhancement is one of our busiest treatments for exactly that reason.
It does not suit you if you want a dramatic overhaul in one sitting, or if you have arrived with a photograph of an influencer half your age. Overfilling is the fastest way to look older, and the mid face is where cheap work shows first. If it has happened to you elsewhere, we can talk about dissolving and starting again properly. It happens more than you would think.
You do not need a train to London or Manchester for work of this standard. Yorkshire quietly does it better, and it has been doing so for a while. Ministry of Faces is nurse-led, and our Leeds clinic has been named Best Salon while Sasha was recognised as Best Aesthetic Practitioner UK.
Free consultations, no obligation, and an honest answer even when the honest answer is that you do not need anything yet.
Restraint is a skill. Anyone can inject more.
QUESTIONS
The questions we get asked most
What is the best anti-ageing treatment in your 40s?
There is no single winner, and anybody who names one is selling it. For most women in their forties the biggest visible change comes from treating skin quality first with a booster or polynucleotide course, then softening expression lines with anti-wrinkle injections. Structure comes third and usually needs less than expected. A free consultation is where we work out your order of play.
Will I look frozen or obviously done?
Not with us. Our house style is deliberately light, we review at two weeks, and we would rather add a little later than take a heavy hand now. If you are nervous, a lighter starting dose is the sensible entry point. Come in and see what restraint actually looks like on a real face.
Is there any downtime with these treatments?
Very little. Injectable treatments can leave small marks that settle within a day or two, and a HydraFacial has essentially none, which is why people book one at lunchtime. We will tell you exactly what to expect before you commit to anything, and you can read more in our FAQs.
How far ahead of a wedding or big event should I book?
Six to eight weeks is the sweet spot. That leaves room for a booster course to settle and for injectables to be reviewed, with a luxury facial in the final week for the finish. Leave it later than a fortnight and we will do skin only. Book early and we can do the whole plan properly.
Do you treat men as well?
Plenty, and the requests are usually about looking less tired and sharpening the jaw. Male jaw enhancement and jawline filler are the two we do most. Consultations are private, unhurried and free.
